Butanone
Molecular formula: CH ∝ COCH ₂ CH ∝
Alias: Methyl ethyl ketone, 2-butanone. Generally referred to as MEK in factories, it is a colorless liquid.
physical property:
Melting point: -85.9 ℃, boiling point: 79.6 ℃, relative density: 0.8054 (water=1 at 20/4 ℃), relative density: 2.42 (air=1). Dissolve in about 4 times the amount of water and can be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Forming a constant boiling point mixture with water (containing 88.7% butanone);
Boiling point: 73.4 ℃. Steam and air can form explosive mixtures with an explosive limit of 2.0% to 12.0% by volume. The chemical properties are similar to acetone.
Usage: Butanone is an important component of the distilled liquid (wood alcohol oil) of dry distillation wood. It can be produced industrially by dehydrogenation of secondary butanol or oxidation of butene with water. Butanone is an important solvent for paint, and nitrocellulose and synthetic resins are easily soluble in it.
